Marvin Heiferman: Photography Changes Everything

What it means for something to be photography changes definition between each individual you go through. Some may say photography is just pictures, or that cell phone cameras produce photography, others may believe that photography requires a level of knowledge, technique, and skill. Depending on who you ask, photography can and look and feels different to many.

One thing that stood out to me in the article "Photography Changes Everything", was when Heiferman said photography "makes us greedy to see more" and this is something that I truly believe. We tend to indulge in these images without noticing. We tend to want to see more even if we are to analyzing or evaluating the photo. It has become a part of our every day life and even statistics showed that on Facebook, "750 million users uploaded and shared 100 million photos everyday". This number is not hard to fathom but what is a little difficult is the total number of photos uploaded throughout the year everyday. We get so consumed in just snapping a quick photo and because of the convenience of having a device in our hand, we are able to share every moment of every experience.

Photography is a tool that not only appeals to us visually (sometimes), but it also takes us away to a new world. It fills us with emotions. It influences us on the views of the world. It provides us with information. It gives clarity. It gives interpretation.  Photography is one that, depending on who the target is, will bring inspiration or information. Having access to this form of art from a young age into adulthood, photography has kept constant in keeping memories and art alive. It takes a moment, freezes it in time and allows us to always go back. Even if the photos are questionable or controversial, we are always a click away from creating something new and beautiful.
